Research Presented at Comparative Misinformation Workshop, Harvard University

This week we presented preliminary findings of our comparative study on motivations for sharing misinformation and disinformation in several Sub-Saharan African countries at the Comparative Approaches to Disinformation Workshop, held at Harvard University. This ongoing project uses focus groups to compare sharing practices across five (soon to be six) African countries, and is a collaboration with the following researchers:

  • Herman Wasserman, University of Cape Town
  • Dani Madrid-Morales, University of Houston
  • Admire Mare, Namibia University of Science and Technology
  • Khulekani Ndlovu, University of Cape Town
  • Melissa Tully, University of Iowa
  • Emeka Umejei, American University of Nigeria
  • Chikezie E. Uzuegbunam, University of Cape Town

The analysis of the focus group data is still ongoing, but you can read an early draft of the paper here. The slides we used during the presentation at Harvard can be found here.
